Licensing FAQ
This page answers common questions about licensing my artwork. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to get in touch.
How does licensing work?
You license existing artwork or patterns for specific product categories (for example stationery, home décor, or accessories) and for an agreed period of time.
- Licences are non-transferable and apply only to the products and uses outlined in the agreement.
- Artwork is not exclusive unless exclusivity is specifically agreed.
- You receive professional, production-ready files suitable for manufacturing.
- I retain the copyright to all artwork unless explicitly agreed otherwise.
What types of products can your artwork be licensed for?
My work is suitable for a wide range of products, including:
- Wallpaper
- Stationery and paper goods
- Home décor and interiors
- Giftware and lifestyle products
- Accessories and tech accessories
- Packaging
If you have a specific product in mind, I’m happy to advise on suitability.
Is your artwork exclusive or non-exclusive?
Both options are available.
- Non-exclusive licences are the standard option and allow the artwork to be licensed to more than one client, often across different product categories.
- Exclusive licences can be arranged for an additional fee and are defined by product category, territory, and licence term.
All exclusivity terms are clearly outlined in the licence agreement.
Can I license a single design or a full collection?
Yes. You can license a single hero design for one product, or a full coordinated collection that includes multiple patterns and supporting artwork.
There is no minimum order. Pricing scales depending on usage, product categories, and scope.
What file formats do you provide?
Final artwork is supplied in professional, print-ready formats appropriate to your product. This may include:
- High-resolution PNG (300 DPI)
- JPEG (300 DPI)
- Vector files (AI / EPS), where appropriate
File formats are confirmed before delivery to ensure they suit your production process.
Can colours or scale be adjusted?
Yes, in many cases.
- Minor adjustments such as colour changes, scaling, or cropping are usually included.
- More significant changes (for example altering composition or adding/removing elements) may require a custom development agreement.
All adjustments respect the original artwork and copyright.
Do you offer custom artwork or bespoke development?
Yes, selectively. I take on custom projects when they are a good fit.
- Custom artwork is created specifically for your brief or product line.
- Turnaround and pricing are quoted per project.
- Custom work may involve different licensing terms from existing collections.
Do you sell the copyright to your artwork?
No. Artwork is licensed rather than sold outright. Copyright remains with me unless explicitly agreed otherwise in writing.
What territories do you license for?
Licences can be agreed for specific territories (for example UK, EU, US, or worldwide). Territory is always clearly defined in the agreement.
How long is a licence valid?
Standard licence terms are typically 12 months, with options to renew.
- Extended terms (24–36 months) can be discussed.
- Longer or perpetual licences may be available for certain projects.
Can I license artwork for multiple products?
Yes. A single design can be licensed across multiple product categories (for example notebooks and phone cases).
Pricing is tiered based on product type and usage scope, so it’s best to outline your full requirements upfront.
Can I use the artwork for digital products?
Yes, digital use (such as wallpapers, social media assets, or digital stationery) is possible.
- Digital usage is licensed separately from print.
- Pricing and terms vary depending on the intended use.
Can I see the artwork before licensing?
Yes, but access is managed to protect the work.
- Share a brief outlining your brand, product type, and intended use.
- You’ll be given access to relevant collections for review.
Do you offer mockups or samples?
Digital mockups can be provided to help visualise artwork on products (for example notebooks, packaging, or accessories). Please request this as part of your enquiry.
What if I need help choosing artwork?
I’m happy to help guide your selection.
- Share details about your product, audience, and colour preferences.
- I can suggest suitable designs or collections with no obligation.
